IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - CULTURE
QUESTION: (IELTS EXAM 14TH September, 2019)
In modern life, many people believe that culture traditions are destroyed by the money- making off the tourist. But others support that it is the only way to protect traditional in the world.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
MS TRANG’S MODEL:
It is argued by many that many cultural traditions are standing a threat to be damaged by the earn from tourist development. However, others believe tourism is a good way to preserve these traditions to tourist communities all over the world. This essay will discuss both sides of this matter.
First of all, there is no denying that making profits from tourism has brought some bad effects which are ruining the traditions of local cultures and customs. When a tourist site decides to show all their conventional customs and cultural heritages to attract a flock of travelers, this means those are not to belong to only their community. As a result, the mixture between the cultural elements of local people and visitors is a normal thing happened during the growth of the tourism industry. “Love market” in Sapa town (in a northern province in Vietnam) is a typical example of destroying the cultural identity. Couples show their date and love based on the visitors’ payment instead of themselves.
On the other hand, growing tourism brings certain money for locals to invest their economy and return to maintain many old historical buildings and culture festivals. Nowadays, many more significantly traditional festivals in Vietnam have rebooted strongly from a huge earned finance of tourists’ enormous expenses when they are traveling. In other cases, Buddhist sculptures, for example, are mended before eroded completely by nature. I believe those cultural values are boosted by this investment that makes locals being confident to protect their traditions, not to only wait from the government funds.
In conclusion, my opinion is tending to the development of tourism which is needed the combination of maintaining cultural traditions and avoiding some bad impacts on this. It is recommended that educating tourists through official websites and journals is considered as a better way that nations and tourist places should be done well to protect the traditional heritage values.
